A 28mm wide-angle view is a great asset and allows landscape and indoor shots to be taken. The 5 x stabilized optical zoom lens gives you the power to zoom in on image details and take shots more creatively – it is about as high a zoom you can expect for a camera of this size.

The 3 inch LCD screen allows you to view and share your images in decent clarity although more advanced users may prefer a higher resolution. The screen does reflect in bright light but Canon has cleverly added a quick bright function to combat this.

Optical Image Stabilizer
One of the big frustrations when taking photos is producing a blurred image due to camera shake, particularly when in low light. The Canon PowerShot A3300 has a built in Optical Image Stabilizer to minimise shake and sharpen your images that might otherwise be blurry. This is a great feature of this camera, and particularly useful to amateur photographers.

Smart Auto function
The Canon PowerShot A3300 has a Smart Auto function which includes 16 scene modes which adjust the picture settings to get the optimum results for a particular situation – for example a sunset or sporting event.
Being pitched at the beginner, the Canon PowerShot A3300 has an Easy Auto mode which deactivates most of the buttons and removes icons from the screen. This helps prevent settings being changed accidentally.

HD recording
This compact camera also features 720p video capture which enables sharp HD recording on the go. The Optical Image Stablizer is used to reduce any shaking effect whilst filming. The video quality is overall very good but as one would expect for a beginner camera, the recording is not of the standard of a proper HD camcorder. For example the sound quality is not as good and it is not possible to zoom in and out during video recording. However for a basic user, we feel the HD recording function is more than suitable.

Face Detection & Red Eye Technology
The cameras Face Detection Technology ensures people remain in focus at all times by detecting up to 35 faces in one frame. Red-eye correction technology automatically removes any red eye.

Downsides

As with many lower-priced cameras, you won’t find manual controls, a long-zoom lens, or high spec extras you would find in higher-end models. This however is ideal for beginner’s who don’t want to be confused with all these added extras.

No camera is perfect and there are of course some limitations to the Canon PowerShot A330. The battery life could be improved, there is no HDMI port, and continuous shooting could be quicker. The HD recording is also basic as mentioned earlier.

Everyone loves a cup of tea and toast in the morning!!!

There are many different brands of toaster to choose from including big names such as Breville, Dualit, Morphy Richards, Russell Hobbs, as well as a number of cheaper own brand options at the supermarket. But we particularly like Magimix toasters which score particularly high on quality, performance and ease of use.

A high quality professional toaster is a welcome addition to any household kitchen. We are particularly impressed with the Magimix 11516 Le Toaster 2 which can be purchased online at John Lewis for £130. This is a top of the range high quality toaster which has a professional brushed stainless steel silver finish that will bring a retro style look to your kitchen. Although more expensive than most other branded toasters, the Magimix 11517 Le Toaster 2 has so many great product features that we believe this toaster is a worthwhile investment for any kitchen.

The Magimix 11516 Le Toaster 2 is extremely solid and well built and has easy to use large function buttons. It comes with two wide slots (L14.4 x W3.7 x D12.5cm) which allows you to toast all manner of bread, crumpets, bagels and teacakes. An auto centre function ensures bread is toasted evenly (unlike many cheaper models) and in fact is one of the most consistent toasters at browning fresh and frozen bread. A manual variable browning control also gives great control over the degree of toasting. Unusually for a 2 slice toaster, there are separate settings for 1- or 2- slices. The 1-slice setting avoids the need to turn down the browning setting when only toasting 1 slice of bread and therefore reduces the risk of burning.

The Magimix 11516 Le Toaster 2 comes with a number of handy features including a bell to warn you when your toast is ready, a bun warmer, defrost and bagel settings, and a great soft touch spring loaded crumb tray at the front of the toaster. Downsides

The obvious downside to the Magimix Le Toaster 2 is that it is fairly expensive and should certainly be viewed as a long term investment for your kitchen. With all its style and great product features, we think this toaster is a great buy.

The only other major drawback is that the Magimix Le Toaster 2 is not the easiest of toasters to clean and fingerprint marks can be difficult to remove. There is also no reheat setting but we don’t see this as being a major issue since reheating bread once already toasted often dries it out.

We don’t feel the Boori Sleigh Royale is too challenging to assemble as the ends are fairly simple to construct and there is not an onerous number of pieces to get your head round.

Top tips when buying a cot

We have put together some key guidelines when buying a cot bed. The most important considerations should be tailored to your own budget.

1. Safety – this should always be paramount for your child. An important safety feature is that of a height adjustable base (see below). Also many cot beds have drop sides that are used when the cot bed is in its cot mode – make sure this meets British safety standards.

2. Price – tailor according to your budget, but typically a paying more will buy you a sturdier and better quality cot bed with more features.

3. Ease of conversion – this is important as you don’t want to encounter problems 2 years after purchase. Also consider whether additional components are required to convert.

4. Ease of assembly – some cot beds can be challenging to assemble, particularly when they come with lots of pieces for the headboard and footboard. Pre assembled ends are much easier to handle. Always consider how complicated the assembly is before purchasing, or alternatively whether an assembly service is offered.

5. Durability – hardwood cots are ultimately the most durable, particularly if you want your cot bed to be used for several children. We would advise against softwood as it is very easy to over tighten the bolts in softwood which will pull the holes and wood out of shape and ultimately weaken the frame.

6. Ease of using height-adjustable base – the base height of most cot beds can be adjusted as your baby grows. Most cot beds have three different heights available. Once your baby is old enough to sit up unaided – usually around 8 months old – make sure you use the lowest height setting. With a choice of several heights you can adjust the bed to suit your child, however old they are. The second height setting is usually used for the bed mode.

7. Size – most cot beds are a similar size, circa 146cm long and 77cm deep. There is usually more variation in cot height, but most are between 90cm and 105cm. Convertible cots are usually a bit bigger so they can be adjusted as your baby grows. Choose your size depending on your needs and whether you aim to use your cot as a sofa in the long run.

Ease of use
The simple one-hand folding mechanism makes the Maclaren Techno XT pushchair very easy put up and down. It’s lightweight feature and carry on handle makes the pushchair easy to put in a car or get on a bus with.

The 4 wheel suspension and self aligning front swivel wheels make the Maclaren Techno XT particularly easy to navigate. The wheels are also very sturdy, useful if you are planning walks off road, in the country or on the beach.

We like the adjustable handles as it means you can adjust the pushchair to your own height and is therefore kind on your back.

Safety

Comfort
There are a number of accessories which create added comfort for your baby, including an adjustable head hugger, shoulder pads, an extendable leg rest for calf support, and a water resistant hood. Downsides
No product is perfect and there are a few downsides to the Maclaren Techno XT pushchair. It is not the smallest of pushchairs even in its folded state. The shopping basket is a decent size but the trolley is hard to get things into when the seat is reclined.

According to digital marketing company iProspect, 70% of affluent men prefer to purchase products online and men are outspending women online by 20-30%.

In an age where e-commerce is at the forefront of business, it is no surprise that men prefer the no-frills option of buying online, a quick and easy shopping experience, rather than spending hours trawling shop floors and fighting the crowds down Oxford Street.

Men are increasingly using mobile devices so that they can purchase on the move. With the popularity of the Smartphone and Blackberry, men are spending more and more time on their devices to make online purchases, as well as checking out the daily news and weather report. What is interesting is that fashion does not actually lead the way, with event tickets, gift cards and electronics making up the top purchase categories.

iProspect found that the most popular website visited by affluent males was Amazon. This is possibly a strong indicator that men prefer to shop in one place, rather than having to search through multiple sites to find the best deal. The age old generalisation that men are in-and-out shoppers certainly rings true with online shopping. Men generally are much more focused shoppers and want to get in and out quickly. This stereotypical behaviour certainly carries over into the world of online shopping.

Evolution of online shopping

In the early days of online shopping, product selection was limited to electrical and music and therefore quite male orientated. As tools for reviewing and comparing products became available, men became more interested in e-commerce. Then as the range of products grew to include fashion, homeware and food, females started to be attracted to online shopping. It was really the arrival of social media however that made the online shopping experience more welcoming for women. Women tend to use social media more to recommend products to friends and family.

While both men and women use social networking sites, they use them for different purposes. Men predominantly use the internet to look for information, research and compare products, whereas women prefer to scan a product quickly, check out sales and discounts, and then move on quickly to the next item of interest.

Shoppercentric, a UK-based shopping research firm, found that 18-24 year old males enjoy browsing both in retail stores and online, and are rivalling women in the number of impulse purchases.
